Fun in July

The kids did swimming lessons.  Leona was a tootface about her lessons.  After the first round she was promoted to level two but then refused to do anything that her teachers told her to do.  Actual exchange:
Teacher: Leona can you float on your back?
Leona: (stonefaced) No
After also pulling this stunt with her soccer coach on the first day she said to me, "I don't want to do what the grownups tell me to do." Apparently we are raising a pint-sized anarchist.  Leona was demoted to level one after steadfastly refusing to do anything the teachers told her to do the whole week at swim lessons.

For my birthday we again went raspberry picking.  This year we didn't pick quite as many raspberries, but we still had enough for some jam, raspberry shortcakes, and munching. As usual the short tractor ride out to the picking site was the highlight.

We also went again to the free family movie in Edmonds.  The movie was a big hit even though it was 20+ years old and the plot centered on sled dogs getting medicine for kids who were sick with diphtheria- not an intuitive theme to make an animated kid movie about.

We also made it out to Jetty Island with a bunch of friends.  Eliza got invited to go to the water park with her friend, Olivia, from school on the same day and couldn't turn that down so it was just Clara and Leona with me at Jetty Island.  Everybody had a great time at the activity that they chose.

Leona chose soccer as her activity for the summer.  As a huge bonus Leona's buddy, Hannah, was on her soccer "team". The first week was a disaster, in spite of several very friendly kids on the team trying fruitlessly to invite a crying Leona to come play with them. Leona did finally play for the last five minutes or so and then walked back to the car with the bragging and swagger of a kid who had been running the practice herself.  What a nut! After that though Leona had a great time at all the other practices.
