Early June

Clara and Leona worked together on this skirt. I think Clara did the designing and sewing while Leona was the creative director and model. They were both very pleased with themselves about how it turned out. I did have to veto Leona wearing it to church as it was a bit tight and short for that, but it was still a fun afternoon's activity.

While Eliza was at Nauvoo the other three kids and I decided to take a trip to the temple ourselves.  We went pretty early in the day so as to beat the heat. We walked all the way around the temple, and then we walked inside. We stayed in the lobby on the couches for a little bit and enjoyed the calm and peace. Then we went into the small visitor's waiting room that's off of the lobby. In there we could talk and we chatted about the temple, the ordinances performed there, and leafed through Ensigns that had photos of the ordinance rooms in temples around the world. Clara was especially enthralled with the photos and looked at every single one. She asked questions about several of them. It was a really good experience, and it made me determined to go back with the kids again.

Also while Eliza was in Nauvoo, we went with the Stevens family to this cool creek about an hour away from us. Apart from it being generally fun to play at a creek, there was the added bonus of fossils. So many of the rocks in the creek were fossils that any random handful of rocks was bound to have at least one fossil in the bunch. Everybody had fun wading in the water, digging, and collecting fossils.
