Trip to Colorado

Our trip to Colorado did not start off very auspiciously. About an hour and a half into the drive we got a flat tire. Thankfully it was right outside of a town with the last Discount Tire store for about a hundred miles. Unfortunately it was a really small town and nothing much was open. Fortunately we found a random, weird museum of Wise County housed in an old theological college that I found entertaining, even if the kids didn't. After a delay of several hours we were back on the road and I have to say that there was no complaining, or griping at all about the delay. The kids (and parents ahem) were delightful and not grumpy in spite of the hiccup in our travel plans.  I really have to give our kids credit for being amazing road trippers. There is no group of kids I’d rather go on a road trip with than my kids- for many reasons really, but one is for sure how chill they are on long road trips.

While we were in Colorado we of course did the usual stuff of getting donuts, playing outside, playing games, and going on a hike, but this time we had an extra special outing. We went to the Denver Temple. Eliza got to go do baptisms for Roueche relatives with Gma Roueche and Dad while Gpa Roueche stayed outside with Clara, Leona, Timothy, and me. While Eliza was baptized for her ancestors the other kids went on a photo scavenger hunt with a custom list designed by Gma for things around the temple grounds using old cell phones for cameras. They had a great time doing the scavenger hunt. Timothy even got in on the action by holding his phone over flowers and sidewalks and "taking" photos of them. 

As another special outing we went to the Wild Animal Sanctuary while we were there. We went in the late afternoon, timing our visit for right before they closed. It was a hot day, but up on the catwalks it was surprisingly breezy and cool. We all enjoyed searching for the animals as they came out of their shady dens as the heat lifted. We saw tons of lions- we heard them too as they were roaring quite loudly- as well as foxes, bears, cougars, llamas, lynx, and white and orange tigers. Timothy was convinced that it was Daniel Tiger and sang Daniel Tiger songs as we walked along. It was a lot of fun and a fun activity to end our trip on.

Our trip ended with some sudden excitement as a pigeon flew right into our headlight as we sped down the highway home. We had to pull over and remove it at a gas station as the pigeon had really stuck to the car and wasn't coming off.
