Monster Road Trip Tennessee/Dollywood Leg

I title this photo "Dreams Come True". All across the South (and directly outside our neighborhood at home) we'd passed Waffle House diners. The kids kept asking if we could eat at one and when we got to Tennessee, we finally had dinner at Waffle House.

In Tennessee we met up with Dad's childhood friend, Alex Tucker, and two of his kids at Dollywood, Dolly Parton's amusement park. I will say that we didn't really know what to expect with Dollywood, having never gone and heard very little about it. It was awesome! Assuming you don't care about meeting characters from movies, it is better than Disneyland. Just as clean and beautiful, cheaper, more roller coasters for older kids and adults, and still a lot of little kid rides. Additionally, they have drink stations all around the park that you can refill your water bottles at whenever you want. This was extremely helpful to us, because we went on what was the hottest day of the summer, there. This meant that while it was hot, it was still 10 degrees cooler than it was back in Texas. This also meant that the park wasn't very busy, because a lot of people opted to go on a cooler day or to go to the water park next door.

We rode a million rides, some we didn't even have to wait in line, just rode, walked back through the line area, and rode again. We ate ice cream. We stayed way longer than we had anticipated staying. Unfortunately, the stars didn't quite align, because Dolly Parton came to visit her park the day AFTER we were there, but that's ok. We had so much fun. I think it might've been the kids' favorite part of the trip.

These last photos were taken on the outskirts of Memphis on our way back home. We were running low on Dramamine and thought we could get away with only giving the kids one dose for the day. We gambled and lost. Tim barfed, with no warning, leaving us no choice but to pull over. While we got him and his carseat cleaned up enough to continue on our way a friendly local homeless man came over and regaled us with tales of Memphis and its makeover in the last decade. It was really hard to keep a straight face, and not to say, "Dude, do you not notice us cleaning chunks of vomit? Surely there's somewhere else that you could choose to be." But apparently we were his best shot at afternoon conversation. The rest of the trip was uneventful and we made it back home.
