Leona was all about the Nativity. She made the little people act it out constantly and built bigger and better manger scenes. Please note that the princesses are showing proper reverence by prostrating themselves. :)
Leona learned early on that the trick to building gingerbread houses is to simultaneously shove as much candy as possible into your mouth and onto your house. This is because candy consumption is largely unregulated during construction and the kids are allowed to deconstruct and eat portions of their houses over the next few days after dinner. Her enormous, sticky smile says it all.
I bribed the kids with watching the Nutcracker if they did some chores, half expecting them to complain about how it hadn't been worth it in the end. Boy was I wrong. They were totally mesmerized by the whole production. They absolutely loved it. They danced the dances, hummed the songs, and debated the merits of the costumes. Maybe next year we'll see about going to see a live performance somewhere. (Timothy was only in there while I took the photo.)
On Christmas Eve we acted out the Nativity, while reading it from Luke. Having a live Baby Jesus makes the whole production much more exciting. Leona once again snagged the role of Mary.
Afterwards we opened the one Christmas present. This was hilarious, because Eliza had been talking for weeks about how she knew what their Christmas Eve present would be, because it's always pajamas. I'm not sure I've ever been so pleased with my choice to deviate from tradition. Even after the presents were opened and it was revealed that Eliza doesn't always know everything she was still arguing that the robes were sort of pajamas and so she was still right. *eye roll*
Leona was especially thrilled with her robe because it was almost a perfect match for her leopard.
On Christmas morning the girls discovered that they had received roller skates, which they had to go try out immediately- or almost immediately. Luckily Seattle held it together and didn't rain long enough for them to get some skating in. Everybody had a great time sharing new presents with each other, eating treats from stockings, video calling with family, and relaxing in fuzzy robes. It was a wonderful Christmas!
