The Dykes come to Seattle

The Dykes came for their yearly Seattle trip and we got to hang out with them a couple times.  The first time we went to Lincoln Park where it proceeded to rain almost the whole time we were there.

The second time was a little more auspicious. We went out to meet them on Vashon Island since Collin had heard all about the sea stars at Raab's Lagoon from last year and wanted to see them.  We went there and then went to another beach to hang out for several hours.  While we were there we had some great luck. Off  shore was a pod of orcas! We were originally alerted to their presence by a lady who came over and told us that we should move our kids away from the edge of the water because there were mammal eating orcas on their way around the coast. While that warning proved to be a bit exaggerated we did see the whales' back, fins, and tails as they came around the coast and we saw seals that were in a hurry to get out of their path.  It was the cherry on top of a really nice day spent with old friends.
