First Day of School... For Everybody Else

After a year at the temporary campus Parkwood Elementary opened its brand new doors to students.  The back to school BBQ was supposed to be held a week before school but the construction crew wasn't ready to let the general public inside their construction site at that point so it got pushed to the night before school started.  The school was still very much a construction zone.  The classrooms were open and ready for business, but the cafeteria, gym, playground, library, and music rooms were still closed for quite a ways into the school year.  I think it's projected that when they go back to school next week everything will finally be in place.

Leona was very excited to find out that she did in fact get Mrs. Salmon for her teacher this year.  Clara had Mrs. Salmon for kindergarten and we loved her.  Leona had been harboring a not so secret hope that she would get her too when she started school.

However, school started a week later for kindergartners than it did for everybody else so that was a bit of a bummer... for Leona, Timothy was thrilled that his buddy was still around.  We walked the mile to school and then back home and Leona got to ride with TimTim for most of the way (although I made her walk up the monster hill as I'm not strong enough to push 70 lb. up that hill)- which was a blast for both of them.  Then we went to Costco, where Leona "fed the duck" bits of her hot dog bun while we shopped.  On the last day of Kindergarten waiting we had a buddy school reunion at our house, which was tons of fun for everybody involved.
